March 2020 to May 2021
During the pandemic I shot and edited my own films. I reported on the impact of coronavirus on under-served communities. My reports have included investigations into children with disabilities, mothers with postnatal depression, Native American communities and breastfeeding mothers. I also investigated the impact of lockdown on other medical issues, including hip dysplasia and Lipoedema. My story with Shaughna Phillips from Love Island was most watched on BBC Website and was picked up by multiple national outlets. My story about alcohol addiction during lockdown was featured on BBC Breakfast. I also reported live in the studio for breaking news stories.
September 2019 to March 2020
I reported on my own original stories for the Victoria Derbyshire programme. I investigated bullying in the British beauty industry and influencers being solicited for sex on Instagram. My stories were in the top three most watched digital films of the programme’s history and have got picked-up by national and international press.
October 2018-January 2019
I was selected to go on a four-month attachment for the pilot of the BBC’s new innovative project. BBC Voice. It aims to provide voice activated news for young people on audio devices such as Amazon’s Alexa. I was brought in as a presenter/reporter. I presented the news bulletins and reported on the daily podcast offering.
August 2017-June 2018
I regularly reported for the BBC World Service. I also produced interviews, booked guests, created packages and edited audio. I produced and reported on the BBC’s most downloaded podcast, The Global News Podcast.
2013-2016
I was at Surge for three years at university. I presented my own show and fronted two of the Surge Flagship shows, ‘Wake Up Southampton’ and ‘The Afternoon Surge’. I learnt practical and hands-on experience of a radio station and its tech. I used Adobe Audition to make demos.
2014
I organised the outside broadcasts for special events and charity fundraisers. I arranged and kept time at committee meetings. In this role I leant how to delegate tasks, work as part of a team and to collaborate with the other media outlets to put on events such as The Media Ball.
February 2019
I was commissioned to make a film based on a UK parliamentary report into the effects of fast fashion. This included coverage across all BBC outlets, the film, a cut-down for bulletins, and a string of live TV and radio interviews throughout the day. Since this, Outside Source TV has regularly booked me for slots regarding fashion/ social media.
June to October 2018/ January- Sept 2019
BBC Minute is an audio and digital youth news platform. I wrote and presented bulletins every half an hour to a 16-24-year-old target audience based mainly in the Middle East and Africa. I presented original journalism digital videos for our Instagram page and for the BBC website. I have then pitched and produced longer TV pieces for the Victoria Derbyshire Programme and BBC World TV. I have also done live TV interviews on BBC OS off the back of my original BBC Minute reports.
2013- 2016
I was an active presenter at the TV station throughout my time at university. I presented all kinds of programmes, from live news shows, documentaries, nightlife and covering university events, watched by 10,000 students online and in the studio. I learnt how to write, shoot and edit my own videos.
2015-2016
I regularly created content for both online and print editions of the magazine and edited other writers’ work. I made sure I publicised the articles on our Facebook and Twitter pages too. In this role, I recognised the importance of a strong social media presence and a team work ethic to keep our section looking updated and current.
2011-2012
I made regular speeches to the entire school and spoke at public events. As Head Girl, I appreciated the weight of storytelling, engaging an audience, public speaking and the importance of working as a team.
